More about carbon dioxide extraction

Extraction using supercritical CO₂ takes place under mild conditions and is more efficient than typical extraction with organic solvents in a Soxhlet apparatus. The properties of CO₂ in the supercritical state—intermediate between those of gases and liquids—such as similar diffusion coefficients, low surface tension, absence of mass transfer limitations, and a liquid-like density and solvent power, make supercritical CO₂ an excellent extraction medium. As a result, this method eliminates the risk of degradation and deactivation of thermally unstable compounds.

We work with solid materials (e.g., seeds, leaves) to extract pharmaceutical substances, essential oils, unsaturated fatty acids, nutraceuticals, antioxidants, active ingredients, natural dyes, and other compounds. We also perform drying and solvent removal from solid matrices, which is particularly valuable in the processing of polymers and other substances where even trace amounts of residual solvents can critically affect the quality of the final product.

We optimize process efficiency, selectivity, and duration by carefully adjusting parameters and the composition of the extractant (process pressure and temperature, CO₂ flow rate, and co-solvent content). We offer our clients extraction services in vessels with capacities of 25 ml and 1000 ml, enabling both process optimization and the production of multi-gram extracts. For research institutions (academic or commercial), we also provide consulting services and analytical support.
