SUMMARY OF THE SCALE-UP CHAMPIONS ONLINE WORKSHOP

On Wednesday, March 2, an online workshop „Financing due diligence from investor’s point of view” was held. The event was free for startups and investors taking part in the Scale-up Champions Investment Readiness Programme. The event was hosted by Szymon Michna, CFO Plona Consulting Sp. z.o.o.

 

The main topic of the workshop was dilligence process – one of the most important steps. There were 3 parts – background aspects of the financial process, investors’ point of view and how startups can prepare yourself for the investors requirements.

The first part began with the topic of financing startups, so when is the right time for an inwestor and where to start. Startups and investors knew forms of financing startups by investors and learned when they should look for an inwestor and what to pay attention to when talking to the inwestor. It is important to emphasize that there are two sides to the forms of financing startups by investors. The difference is related to other goals, because enterpreneur’s goal is obtaining financing and investor’s goals – to obtain a positive return on investment.

In other parts of the workshop, Szymon Michna told about methods of earning by investors and what the risk are: market downturn, business model, unfavorable changes in legal regulation and unsuccessful investments (of course, these are just some of them).

Participants got acquainted with the company areas, which are assessed by the investor. What is more, they knew methods of assessing the profitability of investments and performace indicators and also about effective forms of accounting and controlling to meet the information and decision-making meeds of the enterprise.

What was clearly indicated, financial due dilligence is one of the most essential elements for investors: business profitability and to verify this, there are several an inseparable element of financial due dilligence to be investigated.

At the end, startups and investors taking part in the Programme got a lot of practical tips, for example, that they have to remember about good cooperation with the accountant. Important elements indicated were also well thought-out accounting pronciples, set up a budget proces and regulat data verifications.

The workshop made it possible to talk about substantive and important elements for startups and investors taking part in the Scale-up Champions Investment Readiness Programme.
