“ASK AND YOU SHALL RECEIVE — SCIENCE WILL PROVIDE THE ANSWERS” — JOIN IN!

On October 28 and 29, 2025, in the capital of Greater Poland, we can debunk many ubiquitous scientific myths together. We invite you to the sixth event in the series of meetings entitled “Ask and you shall receive — science will provide the answers.

As part of the project, we invite residents of Poznań and the surrounding area to inspiring educational meetings.

The upcoming lectures will focus on military technologies and astronomy. The expert in the field of astronomy will be prof. UAM Michał Michałowski, while knowledge about military technology will be provided by Col. Piotr Wachna, PhD.

The dates for the series of four meetings are:

October 28, Tuesday (Apollo Cinema, Poznań) 9:00 a.m. – elementary schools (grades 4–8)

October 28, Tuesday (Apollo Cinema, Poznań) 12:00 p.m. – secondary schools

October 29, Tuesday (Apollo Cinema, Poznań) 9:00 a.m. – elementary schools (grades 4–8)

October 29, Tuesday (Apollo Cinema, Poznań) at 12:00 p.m. – seniors and general audience

Experts will answer questions such as:

  1. Can you learn to be a soldier by playing Call of Duty?
  2. Is the number of soldiers more important today than technology?
  3. Can drones save lives during natural disasters?
  4. Do climate change/changing weather conditions affect military operations?
  5. Do animals serve in the military?

Colonel Piotr Wachna, PhD, Deputy Dean for Military Affairs, Faculty of New Technologies and Chemistry, Military University of Technology in Warsaw. He graduated from the National Defense Academy in 2012. Former battalion commander and commander of the 4th Chemical Regiment in Brodnica in 2021–2022. In 2016 and 2020, he served as commander of the Combined CBRN Task Force in the NATO Response Force (two tours). In 2003–2004, he participated in the Iraq Freedom Operation mission.

Prof. Michał Michałowski, PhD, Adam Mickiewicz University He is an astronomer affiliated with the Astronomical Observatory Institute of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. He specializes in research on interstellar matter, star formation, and the evolution of galaxies at various stages of the universe’s existence. His interests include submillimeter galaxies and gamma-ray burst host galaxies. He completed his doctorate at the Center for Dark Cosmology at the University of Copenhagen under the supervision of Jens Hjorth and Darach Watson. He is the author of numerous scientific publications in renowned journals such as Astronomy & Astrophysics and Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society. His achievements have been recognized with, among others, the prestigious RAS Winton Capital Award for Astronomy. In addition to his research activities, he is also involved in popularizing knowledge about the universe through lectures, presentations, and cooperation with the media.

The project is being implemented as part of the Social Responsibility of Science II competition, financed by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.
