How can energy balance be managed? How can energy self-sufficiency and security be achieved at the local level? Answers to these and other questions are provided by the Energy Self-Sufficiency and Security Demonstrator, created as part of the “Life After Coal” project implemented by the Poznań Science and Technology Park (PPNT).
As a member of the project consortium, PPNT collaborated with the project expert and the Climate Advisor for the Wilczyn Municipality. The result of this collaboration is a document supporting the planning and implementation of local energy transitions. Using the example of the Wilczyn municipality, we illustrate the process of local energy transition—from the thermal retrofitting of public buildings, through the modernization of heating systems, to the development of local renewable energy sources. The document also outlines the role of the Municipal Climate Advisor in this process and the actions taken to benefit the municipality’s residents.
The prepared demonstrator is another important achievement in the project. The tool allows for identifying the results achieved at the local level and estimating potential savings. For other municipalities, the document can serve as a practical catalog of recommendations when planning actions in the area of local energy transition.
