PPNT IS A MEMBER OF THE CONSORTIUM OF THIS PRESTIGIOUS PROJECT.

The Poznań Science and Technology Park, as a project partner, is focused on coordinating and implementing training and events as well as promoting the idea of renewable energy sources, communication and providing conceptual support within the project.

The main objective of the Life After Coal project is to reduce the time needed to achieve the strategy’s intended results by providing the right conditions for its full impact
and rapid deployment. The achievement of this objective shall be conditional on the following measures being taken:

  • the construction of a management system aimed at climate neutrality at local and regional level,
  • obtain public acceptance,
  • the active participation of the Eastern Wielkopolska society in the process of economic transformation, which focuses on zero-emission activities and
  • standardize solutions and transfer them to other regions in Poland and the European Union.

In the 30-year history of LIFE program, this project is one of the highest rated projects according to the European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency. The negotiation processes of the terms of the agreement are currently under way.

It is assumed that the main environmental results of the project will be the reduction of CO2 from particularly onerous plants, from the municipal and domestic sectors and from SMEs and the reduction of primary energy demand in Eastern Wielkopolska. This is also an increase in RES share in the energy balance, a reduction in emissions, air quality standards which are not met, and the implementation of the green procurement standard.

Adopted in 2021, by the Board of the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship, the Strategy for Climate neutrality of the Wielkopolska East 2040 is a key document in the process of applying for co-financing of the project, including at the stage of its implementation. The resulting proposal from the National Fund for Environmental Protection and Water Management allows EUR 18 million to be spent on reducing emissions and improving energy efficiency.

The LIFE Program is a financial instrument of the European Union dedicated to co-financing projects in the fields of environment, nature and human impact on the climate. The measures for 2023-2031 will be intended to complement support for the progressive energy transition. The implementation of the project under this program also provides support for a sub-region that will receive €397 million to mitigate the socio-economic impact of carbon leakage in the financial perspective 2021-2027.
