The University of Western Australia Club in Perth hosted the 10th Congress on Ionic Liquids, a global scientific conference. (#COIL10). The event took place on November 17-21, and Vice-President of the Management Board of PPNT, Dr. Eng. Marcin Śmiglak presented his achievements in the field of ionic liquids and designable salicylates at the conference.
Over 250 scientists and experts from around the world took part in the event. Dr. Marcin Śmiglak gave a presentation entitled “From Designable Ionic Liquids to Field-Ready Biostimulants: Commercializing Designable Salicylates” as part of a panel on “Bio-based Materials, Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics,” focusing on green chemistry and the circular economy.
The session covered topics such as: designing reliable waste recycling systems, methods of converting biomass waste into high-value chemicals, and the use of ionic liquids in plant protection by creating safer insecticides or designing biostimulants based on ionic liquids.
During the same conference trip, taking advantage of an invitation from the Centre for Crop and Disease Management (CCDM) at Curtin University in Perth, Dr. Śmiglak gave an hour-long lecture highlighting the achievements of the PPNT team in the field of plant immunity induction and biostimulation, along with a presentation of the PPNT’s research and development activities. Curtin University in Perth, Dr. Śmiglak gave an hour-long lecture highlighting the achievements of the PPNT team in the field of plant immunity induction and biostimulation, followed by a discussion on potential joint research in plant protection.
In addition, as part of the poster session, the Materials Synthesis Team also presented its achievements, mainly from the recently defended doctoral thesis of Dr. Dawid Zieliński. The topic concerned the use of other types of ionic liquids in the processes of manufacturing, curing, and modifying the properties of composite materials. The title of the poster was “From Promising Curiosity to Functional Core: A Ten-Year Journey with Ionic Liquids in Epoxy Composites.”
For several days, Australia became a venue for presenting groundbreaking discoveries, and Dr. Marcin Śmiglak, together with the PPNT Material Synthesis Team, had the opportunity to present their achievements to a wide range of international experts.
